In the year 2000, Gloria Fuertes school started the European cooperation with the participation of the school psychomotricity teacher, Alfonso Lázaro, in the Psychomotricity European Congress celebrated in Marbourg (Germany).
In 2001 we got enrolled more deeply in European programmes. The visit to our centre of 20 staff members of Frambu, a National Resource Center for assessing rare disorders and disabilities in Norway, was a highly motivating even that encourage us to continue being involved in European projects.
Also in 2001, the headmistress of the school, Peña Martínez, participated in an Arion programme in Slovenie about Vocational Education and Training in special needs. It was a great opportunity to share with other countries the experiences in this field. That was the starting point of our first European Comenius Project titled: "Life in protected areas".
In year 2002 a group of teachers from Germany, Denmark and Catalonia that were involved in a European Project about and alternative gesture communication system for disable people visited the school. It was a great experience to debate about special educations needs and to know more about Comenius Projects.
"Life in protected areas" was carried out during three academic years from 2002 to 2005 by Ysgol Bodafon of Llandudno in Wales (United Kingdom); ZER Baridà-Batllia of Cerdanya in Catalonia (Spain); Ècole Joseph Sebastièn Pons of Rivesaltes (France); and Gloria Fuertes School. The protected area that was studied that Gloria Fuertes School was Martin River Cultural Park. The final product of this project was a website where you can see most of the works that had been developed by the pupils participating in it. It is available in the four languages on the project: Catalan, French, English and Spanish.
"Art without borders" was carried out during three academic years from 2005 to 2008 by Osborne School of Winchester (United Kingdom); Gustav-Heinemann-Schule of Pforzheim (Germany); Gimnazjum Specjalne przy Zespole Szkol of Myslowice (Poland); and Gloria Fuertes School. The final product of this project is a work in English that shows some of the works develop in this project.
